چکیده

In a Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) network it is well known that large periods of contention, the intermittent disruptions of the service and limited bandwidth represent a handicap for interactive realtime multimedia applications since they demand high troughput and real time constraints, e.g. Video on Demand (VoD) or Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Nevertheless, it is very common to use WiFi networks as a wireless access networks for multimedia servers allocated in a wired networks (normally in the edge of the fixed kernel network). In this scenario, wireless stations wishing to access to multimedia contents must contend with wireless stations wishing to transmit less priority traffic. Despite the efforts that are being done by different task groups within 802.11 standards to provide Quality of Service (QoS) and to increase the physical data rate, admission control becomes very important to improve the overall system performance. In this paper, we combine an admission control mechanism and a traffic regulation mechanism. The basic idea of our resultant mechanism is that depending on the requested service, the Access Point (AP) could deny the network access if the required bandwidth is not guaranteed or on the contrary, the access is granted reducing the rate of the newly associated station or the rate of some current associated ones. Experimental results show that this is a suitable way to distribute the bandwidth among the associated wireless stations.

Dynamic Traffic Regulation for WiFi Networks

Multimedia applications require high bandwidth in order to assure certain level of Quality of Service (QoS). It is well known that the characteristics of the traffic for multimedia applications are very different from the traditional data traffic that only requires a best effort service. In a network in which terminals communicate multimedia and also traditional data traffic, another important ...

Optimal Harmonization of Out-Network Traffic Control Regulations in Social Networks

Regulations of use of social networks, as one of the key components in these networks, serve an important role in controlling the flow of traffic. The study of the harmonization of these terms and regulations can be a significant step to avoid congestion and (Users’) rejection in the network. Harmonization of traffic control regulations (TCR) among social networks is one of the best solutions t...

A Two-Threshold Guard Channel Scheme for Minimizing Blocking Probability in Communication Networks

In this paper, we consider the call admission problem in cellular network with two classes of voice users. In the first part of paper, we introduce a two-threshold guard channel policy and study its limiting behavior under the stationary traffic. Then we give an algorithm for finding the optimal number of guard channels. In the second part of this paper, we give an algorithm, which minimizes th...

A Detailed Game-Theoretical Analysis of the WiFi Offloading in Wireless Markets

The rapid advances in networking, mobile computing, and virtualization, lead to a dramatic increase in the traffic demand. A cost-effective solution for serving it, while maintaining a good quality of service (QoS), would be to offload a part of the traffic originally targeted for cellular base stations (BSs) to a WiFi infrastructure. Related work on the WiFi offloading often considers markets ...

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks

Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...
